  • The travel will be done by car. This may present some disadvantages: one is having avoid Colombia, but driving a car give the ease and the freedom to explore remote area.

  Road risks
Website
provided by the Routard, abm and from world-travelers are really helpful in order to evaluate potential risks and to anticipate them. Here are my personal tips:
  • have copy of your identification documents, passport, scan it in order to be able to retrieve it from the Internet later, just in case...
  • sew pockets in your trouser to hide money
  • carry on a wedding ring
  • to have with you disposable materials such as perfusion kit (and the doctor's certificate to avoid any confusion), aspivenin
  • medical check-up before departure
  • have a short training in automobile mechanics and 4 wheels driving class
  • obviously travel in a modest way
  • give power of attorney to somebody at home in case of emergency

  Sabbatical year
This experience may be valorized when you return by the proficiency in a new language, acquisition of a new kind of autonomy, maturity, a broadmindedness. In my case, I took a sabbatical year, renewable once.
  Housing
I keep my housing.
